Cotton Smock

Rainy Day Designs began from an old pattern of my grandmother’s- from the 1950′s, used to make play smocks for her daughter, then eventually for me, her granddaughter. In 1982, she traced the original on a few pages of the Houston Post, and in 2008, I traced my template on the pages of the Houston Chronicle. I was so excited to have found the first template, and immediately began sewing smocks for my daughter. After telling a few friends and family my sentimental story and showing them the finished product ( cotton smocks), I realized I had stumbled onto something much bigger than my own sentimentality and desire to keep my toddler’s clothes clean! I saw other moms with the same needs as my own, and decided to start my own business- all from finding my grandmother’s old pattern template.

Rainy Day Designs is committed to being a steward to the Earth. The laminates I use on my bibsĀ  are PVC-Free. When I purchase my materials I buy locally to eliminateĀ  shipping or I order from a company that holds all items until they can ship them at one time. I promise to try and make the most ethical decisions on how my business affects the environment.

You can shop at my Etsy Shop HERE, or you can visit Ashton House located in Beaumont, Texas, or I maintain a booth at Cypress Market nights: Every Friday, 4-8 pm, at the corner of Skinner Road and Hwy 290, in Cypress, Texas.

Whatever the item is you’re interested in, it will be fun, functional and fabulous!
